In Mekong Delta water, there is a vast variety of boats; most of them are still traditionally wooden boats. The smallest ones are propelled by hand using paddles or oars.
There are also small long-tailed outboards for the open river. Among the engine powered boats, there is every sort of power plants, from quite powerful diesels to little air cooled gas engines.
Many of them are mounted as long-tailed outboards. All these boats are built much the same, however: round bottomed, double ended, with very full lines, carrying their greatest beam well into their ends.
The boat building trades are very well developed around Mekong Delta area and the boats are built to a high standard.
